31 December 2018

Go‑Ahead London ran a campaign in December to donate clothing, footwear, blankets and other useful items to aid the homeless.

This was in preparation for a group of colleagues to visit parts of London most affected by homelessness.

The communications department publicised the ‘Homeless Appeal’ in all garages, requesting the need for donations for this important event. They had a great response and employees were dropping off items of clothing to their home garage in their droves. We also received toiletries, blankets and shoes, as donations from all around the company kept flooding in.

After much organising and preparation, the day of the event arrived. The team consisted of all members of Go‑Ahead London's Communications team, four colleagues from Stockwell bus garage, one driver from Sutton bus garage and the Assistant Operating Manager from Croydon.

"It was a very cold night so inevitably, many of the homeless people we visited were in subways and under shelter in attempt to keep both warm and dry. It was emotional to see first-hand, the number of homeless people we have living in our capital."

The pilot scheme for the ‘Homeless Appeal 2018’ was a success and we plan on repeating it again this year.
