We are looking to recruit an Engineering Supervisor. Your primary role will be to ensure that the engineering running shift team work effectively and efficiently throughout the shift to ensure that there are sufficient fit vehicles for service and breakdowns / on the road faults are actioned efficiently.

It is essential that you have prior experience managing a team of engineers and can motivate colleagues to work collaboratively to deliver the required vehicle maintenance. Flexibility is required.You must be able to work under pressure without close supervision, demonstrating initiative and adaptability. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn technologies unique to our business are necessary. Ideally, you will be a member of the IRTE or hold another relevant professional qualification. An interest in emerging technologies and electric vehicles would be advantageous.

Senior Lead Engineer

Go-Ahead London operate some of the most technically advanced vehicles in the industry and we expect them to be maintained to the highest standards. In recognition of this we require an increase in our Field Service Team as we take on a greater percentage of advanced technical work. Our vision is to be a fully self-sufficient operator including the overhaul and repairs of systems including HV Batteries, Traction motors and Generators in addition to the major units we currently repair.

The right candidate will be qualified to a minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent and have a good mechanical and electrical knowledge and skill base. You will possess a good knowledge of current technologies and have a keen interest in emerging ones. You will be willing and able to learn and use your knowledge to help develop the team around you.

The principal duties of the post are:

  •  Fault diagnosis
  •  Use of advanced diagnostic tools
  • Training
  • Liaison with Technical Services and Support Managers
  • Reduce dependency on external contractors
  • Produce periodic reports of garage technical issues

Go Ahead London’s buses are on the Capital’s roads 24 hours a day, these vehicles cost anywhere between £125,000 – £300,000 and are equipped with the latest technologies and innovations. We expect them to be maintained to the highest standards and ready to go into service at a moment’s notice. With vehicles becoming increasingly complex, the role of the parts operative is crucial in ensuring the right part is selected and delivered on-time, every time, to avoid costly delays.

To achieve this, we are looking to recruit an Apprentice Stores & Logistics operative that is highly motivated and has the ability to communicate well with others, as well as being able to learn and understand various computer-based applications and systems. On-the-job training is provided in our Procurement office, as well as in our garages, which means that you learn from a more experienced member of staff. Training is also provided by a college at your normal workplace. The individual will obtain an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Level 2 in Customer Service Practitioner with Parts.

Entry requirements

  • At Go Ahead London we look for a strong motivation to learn and a passion for the automotive industry. All applicants for our Apprenticeships go through a robust selection process which includes testing and interviews before finally being offered a position on our Apprenticeship scheme.

Driving requirements

  • Successful applicants who do not already hold a valid Full UK driving licence will be required to do so before the end of their second year as it is a requirement that our storekeepers hold a valid Full UK Licence.
