Discover Go‑Ahead London’s Recruitment and Training Academy
Welcome to the Apprenticeships at Go-Ahead London.
Go-Ahead was named as one of the UK’s top 20 apprentice employers recently in a ranking developed by the Department for Education, and as the top provider in the transport industry.
Our Camberwell academy is the first and largest in-house provider of bus driving apprenticeships in the UK and recently celebrated its 5th birthday. The academy uses virtual reality technology to teach driving skills, and trainees alternate over the course of a year between periods driving buses and time in the classroom. Last year 77% of those who started the course completed their apprenticeship and gained a qualification.
Since the training programme was introduced in 2018, we have been able to deliver all aspects of training to our apprentices including offering numeracy and literacy training equivalent to Maths and English GCSEs, and additional support to those with a range of neurodiverse conditions.
We are proud to have apprentices in our Go-Ahead London team. There will be more coverage of Apprenticeship coming soon.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a paid job with an accompanying learning
programme. The job must provide the employee with the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to achieve the apprenticeship and carry out the role they are employed to do. It is a way for individuals to earn while they learn, gaining valuable skills and knowledge in a specific job role.
What are the prerequisites/entry criteria to do an apprenticeship?
Entry requirements depend on the sector, the apprenticeship
subject and prior qualifications, if an applicant has already
achieved A-levels, they may still be expected to start at
intermediate or advanced level as some sectors, such as
engineering, require you to build up occupational skills.
Am I too old to do an apprenticeship? Aren’t
apprenticeships for young people/school
leavers?
Apprenticeships are for everyone, at any age. There is no upper age
limit for becoming an apprentice, and so it is open to anyone over
the age of 16 to develop their skills and capability in the workplace
in order to progress.
What is an apprenticeship standard?
It’s like a school syllabus or curriculum. It provides the criteria
against which you will be measured at end-point assessment.
